Melaka State Election: BN Offers PN Positions in State Government

BAGAN DATUK: Barisan Nasional (BN) is prepared to offer positions in the state government to Perikatan Nasional (PN) representatives if the coalition succeeds in forming the government after the Melaka State Election.

BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the move is in line with the political cooperation agreement reached between the two coalitions ahead of the state election.

“As was the case in Negeri Sembilan previously, we honour our agreement by offering appointments to our political partners to be part of the state government.

“We will adopt the same approach by inviting PN representatives who win State Legislative Assembly seats to join the state government if we succeed in forming the government,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters at the Deepavali Santunan Kasih 2026 event at the UMNO Bagan Datuk Complex here today.

Ahmad Zahid expressed confidence that the political understanding with PN ahead of the Melaka State Election would be accepted by the grassroots members of both coalitions.

According to him, the two coalitions have signed a memorandum of understanding to mobilise their election machinery and encourage voters to support candidates mutually agreed upon by both sides.

“This time, we have formalised the arrangement to ensure that the mobilisation of our election machinery runs smoothly. We do not rule out the possibility of problems at the grassroots level, as efforts to build compatibility between the two sides may have started somewhat late.

“Therefore, leaders from both coalitions, BN and PN, will visit the respective State Legislative Assembly constituencies, and we will coordinate the operations of our election machinery at the locality, polling district centre (PDM) and state constituency levels,” he said.
