SHAH ALAM: Homeowners must ensure that the installation of electric vehicle charging bays (EVCB) for personal use complies with safety requirements and is compatible with their residential electricity supply capacity.
The Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) said in a statement that these measures are essential to prevent safety risks and ensure that charging facilities operate properly.
According to MPS, homeowners installing EVCBs using their existing electricity supply without carrying out building renovation or construction work are not required to appoint a Principal Submitting Person (PSP), Submitting Person (SP) or building draughtsman.
The clarification follows questions raised on TikTok regarding EVCB installation procedures.
“However, if the installation involves renovation or construction work, homeowners must refer to the MPS Building Department,” the statement said.
MPS explained that different requirements apply to EVCB installations intended for public, commercial or paid use at strata and non-strata residential premises, industrial areas, institutions, petrol stations and rest and service areas (R&R).
For installations under these categories, the requirement to appoint a PSP, SP or building draughtsman remains subject to PLANMalaysia’s Electric Vehicle Charging Bay Planning Guidelines (GPP EVCB).
In addition, all installations must comply with fire safety requirements set by the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM).
“MPS acknowledges the concerns raised and hopes this clarification will help the public better understand the procedures for installing EVCBs.
“MPS is committed to ensuring that matters relating to the installation of electric vehicle charging facilities are handled clearly, systematically and in compliance with existing regulations,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, MPS supports efforts to expand electric vehicle adoption as part of initiatives to strengthen Selangor’s green mobility agenda and sustainable urban development.
