SHAH ALAM: The Ministry of Education (MOE) will provide four days of hybrid classes for trainee teachers at Institutes of Teacher Education (IPG) in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek said the arrangement would allow trainee teachers studying far from their hometowns to return home and celebrate the festival with their families while continuing to attend classes online.

She said hybrid classes would be conducted from November 9 to 12 for Group A states and November 10 to 13 for Group B states.

“Through this arrangement, trainee teachers returning home to celebrate Deepavali can still attend their classes online.

“We want to ensure that learning continues smoothly without overlooking the importance of spending time with family,” she said in a Facebook post today.

According to a notification letter issued by the Institute of Teacher Education Malaysia (IPGM) dated October 30, the Deepavali holiday for Group A states, comprising Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, is scheduled for November 8.

For Group B, comprising Perlis, Penang, Perak, the Federal Territories, Selangor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Pahang and Sabah, the holiday falls on November 9.

Sarawak, however, will not observe the holiday as Deepavali is not a public holiday in the state.

The same letter also stated that IPG campuses may submit applications for additional holidays and replacement holidays to IPGM if necessary.

In addition, campuses with a small number of Indian students may grant leave to the students concerned.
