SEREMBAN, Feb 4: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has secured a six-day remand order against a senior army officer suspected of soliciting and receiving bribes amounting to nearly RM28,000.

The remand was approved by Magistrate Sara Afiqah Zulkifli following an application submitted by the MACC. The suspect, a man in his 50s, will remain in custody until Feb. 9 to assist investigators.

According to a source familiar with the case, the alleged bribes were linked to inducements for extending contracts related to photography services, including the sale of photographs and souvenirs. Additional payments were also allegedly received from contractors who were awarded projects at the suspect’s workplace.

The officer was detained at around 4.30pm on Tuesday (Feb 3) at the MACC office in Seremban.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the alleged corrupt activities took place between 2024 and 2025, during the period when the suspect served as a director.

“It is believed that the suspect received bribe payments ranging from RM500 to RM3,000 on a monthly basis, with the money transferred directly into his personal bank account,” the source said.

Negeri Sembilan MACC director Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg. Ismail confirmed the arrest, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

Further investigations are ongoing.
