318 Johor Police Officers, Personnel Deployed to Assist Negeri Sembilan State Election
JOHOR BAHRU: A total of 318 officers and personnel from the Johor Contingent Police have been deployed to Negeri Sembilan to help ensure the smooth running and security of the state election voting process there.
Johor Police Chief, Datuk Ab. Rahaman Arsad said the assignment is part of the police’s responsibility in ensuring the democratic process runs in a peaceful, safe and orderly manner.
“The Johor Contingent will assist the Negeri Sembilan Contingent in ensuring the smooth running of the state election starting today and is expected to end two days after the voting process is completed.
“A total of 290 general duties personnel and 28 traffic personnel have been deployed to assist in security aspects and the smooth running of the Negeri Sembilan state election,” he said at the send-off ceremony for the officers at the Johor Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) here today.
Ab. Rahaman added that the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) and officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) through Op Cantas are also on standby in Johor to be deployed if necessary.
“Throughout the assignment, I remind all personnel to obey every instruction from commanding officers, maintain a neutral attitude and always prioritise safety.
“Even though we come from different contingents and formations, we remain as one team with the goal of ensuring the election process runs smoothly and under control,” he said.
Meanwhile, he also expressed appreciation to the entire Johor Contingent police personnel as well as outside contingents for the success in managing the 16th Johor State Election peacefully and under control.
“Throughout the Johor state election period, the police received 130 reports and opened 27 investigation papers. This involved 20 cases of damaging campaign materials under Sections 426, 427 and 435 of the Penal Code, four cases under the Election Offences Act 1954, as well as one case each under Section 500 of the Penal Code, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and the Sedition Act 1948,” he said.
