KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 2:  Police have arrested three family members who allegedly assaulted and threatened a young man following a misunderstanding involving his girlfriend in Kampung Cheras Baru last Saturday.

Ampang Jaya District Police Chief ACP Khairul Anuar Khalid said the suspects, aged 24 to 56, were picked up by officers from the district Criminal Investigation Division at about 4.30pm on the same day of the incident.

According to police, the 22-year-old victim had just sent his girlfriend home when a dispute broke out between him and the woman’s two older brothers at around 1.40am.

During the altercation, one of the brothers allegedly whipped the victim’s leg with a PVC pipe and punched him repeatedly, causing facial injuries and a fractured nose. He was later treated at Ampang Hospital.

The woman’s uncle, identified as the third suspect, allegedly threatened to kill the victim if he continued seeing her.

A police report was lodged at 4.50am, leading to the swift arrest of all three suspects. Officers also seized the PVC pipe believed to have been used in the assault. One of the brothers was found to have a previous criminal record. All suspects have been remanded for four days to assist investigations under Section 325 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt.

In a separate case, four men, including three foreigners aged between 18 and 40, were arrested between Wednesday and Saturday for their suspected involvement in a violent road bullying incident on Nov 14.

The case involved a Pakistani national and his two friends who were stopped at a red light when they were suddenly confronted by a man acting aggressively and attempting to halt their vehicle.

The suspect then pursued the victims’ car up to the Ampang Lookout Point area, claiming to be from the Ministry of Defence and trying to show an authority card. Soon after, around 25 men surrounded the victims’ vehicle and physically assaulted them.

The victims sustained multiple injuries, and their vehicle was damaged in the attack.

All four suspects have been remanded for periods ranging from three to six days to assist investigations under Section 148 (rioting with weapons) and Section 427 (mischief causing damage) of the Penal Code.
