KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 — In preparation for the upcoming 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and Related Meetings, more than 5,000 police personnel will be on duty to ensure security and smooth operations during the high-level diplomatic event taking place from July 8 to 11 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
According to Bukit Aman’s Internal Security and Public Order Department director, Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim, a total of 5,121 police officers from various units and departments will be mobilized. The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has developed a comprehensive security plan, and continuous monitoring will be in place throughout the event.
> “The police have taken proactive measures to ensure a high level of preparedness ahead of this meeting. Our main focus will be on VIP protection, traffic control, and emergency response,” said Datuk Seri Azmi in a statement to Bernama on Thursday.
He added that advanced technologies such as facial recognition systems and explosives detection equipment will be deployed to enhance operational effectiveness.
The security operation will involve a combined force from the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK), Federal Reserve Unit, Special Operations Unit (UTK), 69 Commando, Special Branch, and the Management Department.
In addition to securing the main venue at KLCC, strategic locations such as Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Subang Airport will also be closely monitored to ensure the safety of foreign delegates and dignitaries.
The ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is a critical platform for regional cooperation, bringing together top diplomats from Southeast Asian nations and dialogue partners to discuss political, security, and socio-economic issues affecting the region.
