Indian Nurse Arrested After Allegedly Killing Husband with Toxic Injection Following Failed Murder Attempt
HYDERABAD: Police in India’s Telangana state have arrested a 32-year-old nurse accused of murdering her husband by allegedly injecting a toxic mixture of toilet cleaner and crushed sleeping pills into his intravenous (IV) line after an earlier attempt to kill him reportedly failed.
The accused, identified as Sandhya, is alleged to have killed her husband, Dayini Prashanth, 35, on June 30 at their residence in Nizamabad district, according to police. The victim had been recovering from serious injuries sustained in what investigators say was a previous murder attempt.
Authorities allege that Sandhya conspired with her alleged partner, Anil, 35, and his friend, Venkat Sai, also known as Bunty, to eliminate her husband in order to continue an extramarital relationship.
Police said Prashanth had been working in the Gulf for the past two years but returned to India on June 27 and reportedly decided not to resume overseas employment. Investigators believe this decision prompted the suspects to plan his murder.
According to the investigation, the first attempt took place on June 29, when Venkat Sai allegedly visited Prashanth’s home, encouraged him to consume a large amount of alcohol, and later took him to the rooftop of the building. Acting on instructions allegedly given by Sandhya over the phone, Sai is accused of pushing Prashanth from the terrace.
Despite suffering severe injuries, Prashanth survived the fall. Police said Sandhya allegedly convinced him that he had fallen accidentally while intoxicated and arranged for him to receive treatment at a government hospital before later transferring him to a private hospital and eventually bringing him home.
Investigators said that because Sandhya had nursing training, she continued administering IV fluids to her husband at home during his recovery.
Police allege that she later injected a mixture of toilet cleaning liquid and crushed sleeping tablets into his IV line through a cannula. Investigators also claim she pushed him from his bed, after which he died.
Initially, Sandhya allegedly attempted to portray her husband’s death as a consequence of complications resulting from his earlier fall.
However, suspicions raised by Prashanth’s mother, who lives separately, prompted a police investigation. She filed a complaint questioning the circumstances surrounding her son’s death, leading investigators to uncover the alleged conspiracy.
Following the investigation and interrogation of the suspects, police arrested Sandhya. Authorities have also implicated Anil and Venkat Sai in the alleged murder plot, and further investigations into the case are ongoing.
Police are continuing to gather forensic evidence and determine the full extent of each suspect’s involvement before filing formal charges in court.
