PETALING JAYA, Oct 29:  Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth treasurer Datuk Shahrul Nasrun Kamarudin has been temporarily “given a break” from his duties following a social media storm sparked by a series of scandalous allegations made by his ex-wife.

Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr. Muhamad Akmal Saleh confirmed that the decision was made to allow Shahrul some space to focus on resolving his personal matters.

“For the time being, Datuk Shahrul is temporarily relieved from his duties as BN Youth treasurer so that he can focus on his personal affairs.
We will not intervene and will give him the space he needs to settle the issue,” Dr Akmal told Sinar Harian on Wednesday.

The controversy erupted on October 28 when Shahrul’s ex-wife, influencer and entrepreneur Amyera Zainal, took to social media with a string of allegations accusing him of infidelity and leading a double life. She claimed she was forced to speak out after certain parties attempted to tarnish her reputation.

The allegations surfaced just days after Shahrul announced his engagement to Meerween Hanees Natasha on October 25.

In response, Shahrul publicly denied the accusations and defended his fiancée, stressing that she was not connected to any of the viral claims.

“I want to stress that my fiancée, Meerween Hanees Natasha, has no connection whatsoever with the issues currently going viral.
Our relationship only began after I was officially divorced and held the status of a single man,” he said in an Instagram statement on Tuesday (Oct 28).

The BN Youth leader acknowledged mistakes in his previous marriage but expressed disappointment that private matters had become a public spectacle.

“I admit that my previous marriage legally ended on July 30, 2024. My ex-wife and I went through the process in accordance with both civil and religious laws.
As a human being, I am not free from making mistakes. What happened in my past marriage is a valuable life lesson.
However, I deeply regret that private issues are now being made public, tarnishing the dignity of many, including my family and fiancée,” he said.

Despite his clarification, the controversy continues to fuel intense debate online. Social media platforms such as TikTok, Threads, and Instagram have been flooded with criticism and heated discussions over Shahrul’s personal conduct and his suitability to continue serving in BN Youth leadership.

BN Youth has yet to announce who will temporarily assume Shahrul’s duties during his absence.
