KUALA LUMPUR: The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has demolished an illegal hut used to collect recyclable materials and as a gathering and hangout spot for foreign nationals in Pandan Mewah here.

The action was carried out through an integrated operation following public complaints, particularly a video received showing an unauthorised hut built at the Jalan Mewah 4 field in Pandan Mewah.

“The illegal hut, which was constructed without permission, has been completely demolished.

“Several bird cages were also removed, and the surrounding area was cleaned to ensure the safety and peace of mind of local residents,” the council said in a Facebook post.

Elaborating further, MPAJ said inspections and investigations had uncovered an illegal hut used for collecting recyclable materials and keeping birds, while the site also served as a gathering and hangout spot for foreign nationals.

Acting on the information received, the authorities immediately demolished the structure and completely cleared the construction debris.

“MPAJ takes seriously any unauthorised construction of structures on public land, particularly those that may cause discomfort or disturb the peace of our community.

“The demolition and cleaning operations were carried out in collaboration with KDEB Waste Management, involving the removal of the hut, overgrown vegetation and recyclable materials accumulated in the open area.

“The operation also involved two MPAJ excavators and six roll-on roll-off (RORO) containers provided by KDEB to assist with the demolition and cleaning work,” it said.

In addition, MPAJ’s Enforcement Department removed 18 bird cages and 20 bird traps from a location adjacent to the cleared area.

As a preventive measure to ensure that similar incidents do not recur, MPAJ will continue monitoring the area periodically and formulate appropriate measures to prevent the misuse of public open spaces by irresponsible parties.
