Fake Medical Certificates: Three Women Arrested in Kota Tinggi
KOTA TINGGI: Police arrested three women here yesterday afternoon to assist in investigations into the forgery of medical certificates (MCs) allegedly used to deceive employers in the district.
Kota Tinggi District Police Chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said the three women, aged between 22 and 23, were arrested at approximately 3.20 pm.
He said the arrests were made following a police report lodged by a medical officer from a private clinic regarding the alleged forgery of medical certificates at 2.47 pm on October 5.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the first suspect allegedly purchased a fake medical certificate before submitting the document to her employer.
“The second suspect is believed to have acted as a middleman by helping to obtain the fake medical certificate from the third suspect,” he said in a statement here today.
Yusof said background checks revealed that one of the three suspects had a previous record involving a drug-related offence.
“Police believe the arrests of the three suspects will assist investigations into several cases involving the forgery of medical certificates in the Kota Tinggi district.
“The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and Section 471 of the Penal Code for using a forged document as genuine. The suspects have been remanded until this Thursday to facilitate investigations,” he said.
