Waze Banned to Protect Government Information, Users’ Personal Data from Israeli Threats – PM

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has decided to ban the use of the Waze navigation application among all civil servants.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a statement that the move aims to protect government information and users’ personal data from potential misuse by the Israeli regime.

It explained that the decision takes into account the status of Waze Mobile Ltd. as a controller of user data, incorporated and operating under Israeli law.

“Sensitive government information and the personal data of Malaysians must be protected from being exploited by the Israeli regime in ways that could compromise national security and sovereignty.

“At the same time, the Prime Minister has advised all Malaysians to stop using the Waze application and switch to local alternatives such as TuJu.

“This recommendation takes into consideration the security assurances and personal data protection offered by these alternatives,” the statement said today.

The PMO said the MADANI Government remains firm in its position and will close any loopholes that could be exploited by the Israeli regime to threaten the security of the country and its people.
