KANGAR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has suspended the membership of Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah for two party election terms, effective October 13.

The letter, dated October 14, 2026, was signed by Bersatu Disciplinary Board Chairman Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan, informing Abu Bakar, who is also the Kangar Bersatu Division Chief, of the decision to suspend his membership.

The matter was confirmed by Perlis Bersatu Chairman Izizam Ibrahim after the suspension letter went viral on social media.

“Yes, it is true. The letter was issued last week. The Menteri Besar is also aware of the suspension letter.

“For now, we are awaiting an official decision from Bersatu’s central leadership and the PAS State Assembly members,” he said today.

According to the circulated letter, the party’s Disciplinary Board, which convened on October 13, decided to suspend Abu Bakar under Clause 22.5 of the Bersatu Constitution for two party election terms.

The disciplinary action followed allegations that he had violated Clause 9.1.4 of the Bersatu Constitution, as well as the party’s Code of Ethics and Conduct.

Abu Bakar has also been stripped of all positions held within the party and is prohibited from making any statements on behalf of Bersatu throughout the suspension period.

However, he may still submit an appeal to the party’s Appeals Board within 14 days from the date the notice was issued.
