BN Confirms Solo Contest in Negeri Sembilan State Election

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) will contest the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election independently after Pakatan Harapan (PH) announced plans to field candidates in all 36 state assembly seats, BN Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters after delivering the keynote address at the Invest Malaysia Kuala Lumpur 2026 conference, Ahmad Zahid said BN had little choice but to prepare for a solo campaign in the state.

“In Negeri Sembilan, BN will definitely move forward on its own because Pakatan Harapan has already announced that it will contest all 36 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats,” he said.

“That means we have no other option but to contest independently,” he added.

The announcement signals a potential multi-cornered contest in the state election and highlights the evolving political dynamics among parties within the Unity Government framework.

Earlier, Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan chairman Aminuddin Harun revealed that the coalition had finalised seat allocations among its component parties, the People’s Justice Party, the Democratic Action Party and Parti Amanah Negara, ahead of the election.

The decision by PH to contest all 36 seats effectively closes the door on any seat-sharing arrangement with BN in Negeri Sembilan, setting the stage for a direct electoral contest between the two political coalitions.

Political observers are expected to closely monitor developments in the lead-up to the state election, as both coalitions seek to strengthen their support base and secure a mandate from voters.
