TuJu App Allegedly Plagued by Frequent Outages, Poor User Experience

KUALA LUMPUR: The government’s efforts to encourage Malaysians to switch to the locally developed navigation application TuJu have yet to produce the desired results, with the system reportedly suffering frequent outages and lacking user-friendly features.

Despite recording a surge in downloads, exceeding 800,000 users following data security concerns involving foreign applications such as Waze, its actual performance on the road remains far from meeting the needs of local motorists.

A review found that the application, jointly developed by the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) and Prosignal Consortium Sdn Bhd (PCSB), faces several critical technical issues that have sparked widespread user dissatisfaction.

The writer’s own experience using the application while travelling from Bangsar to Bukit Jalil was equally disappointing, as the navigation system failed to function entirely.

Among the major weaknesses identified was the location search feature, which frequently displayed a “No Results Found” message.

Even prominent landmarks in urban areas, such as Pavilion Bukit Jalil and Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Club, could not be located by the system.

Adding to the frustration, users also encountered login difficulties, with an “Invalid Email” message repeatedly appearing despite the correct information being entered.

Furthermore, the application lacks a reset function or a direct channel for reporting problems when users are unable to log in.

A check of the app stores revealed that the review sections were flooded with similar complaints from other users.

The application’s real-time navigation function was found to be unstable, frequently disconnecting, providing confusing directions and failing to suggest alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion — basic features commonly offered by other navigation applications.

A user identified as JuanLela 9497 expressed disappointment that even basic processes such as registration and login had become major obstacles.

“Even registering is difficult, let alone logging in. Please review this application. It has already been featured on TV3 news, but its quality is extremely disappointing,” the user said.

Another user, Fauzan Roslan, claimed that the application could not even process basic searches.

“Even typing ‘CIMB Bank’ into the search produces no results. If the application is not ready and lacks basic functions, it should not have been launched yet,” he stressed.

The issue also caught the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who apologised and confirmed receiving feedback from LLM acknowledging that the TuJu application was indeed incomplete and still had numerous shortcomings.

Meanwhile, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil urged LLM and PCSB to provide a detailed and comprehensive explanation to restore public confidence in the application.

LLM and PCSB are reportedly working intensively to restore the servers and implement system improvements in stages.
