Sri Lankan Envoy Applauds Saudi Arabia’s Leadership in Promoting Islamic Values

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Abdullatif Al-Asheikh, welcomed Sri Lankan Ambassador Omar Lebbe Ameer Ajwad and his accompanying delegation in Riyadh, where both sides engaged in discussions on bilateral cooperation in Islamic affairs.

According to a report by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the meeting focused on strengthening ties between the two nations in promoting Islamic teachings, fostering moderation, and supporting global Islamic initiatives.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Ambassador Ameer Ajwad praised the Kingdom’s pivotal role in championing Islamic causes and promoting the core values of tolerance, moderation, and peace, particularly in Sri Lanka.

“We take pride in the Kingdom’s remarkable role in promoting the values of tolerance and moderation, a noble mission that truly represents the lofty message of Islam,” the ambassador stated.

He also expressed deep appreciation to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their unwavering support to Sri Lanka in various fields, particularly in initiatives rooted in the Qur’anic values of unity, compassion, and service.

The envoy further lauded the Ministry of Islamic Affairs for its global outreach programs aimed at spreading a message of moderation and enlightenment. He highlighted the ministry’s efforts in organizing international Qur’an competitions, conducting training for imams and preachers, and running educational campaigns that reinforce peaceful coexistence and Islamic values.

The meeting underscored the continued partnership between Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka in advancing shared religious and humanitarian goals, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation in future initiatives.
