ROME— The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is represented at the Second Parliamentary Conference on Interreligious Dialogue by Speaker of the Shoura Council Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Asheikh. The conference started today with the theme, “Strengthening Trust and Embracing Hope for our Common Future.”

The three-day event takes place in Rome’s famous Palazzo dei Congressi and brings together parliamentary leaders, lawmakers, and faith leaders from around the world to help people of different religions understand each other better.

In his opening speech, President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies Lorenzo Fontana greeted everyone. Fontana said, “This conference is very important for building bridges between people of different faiths.” “The foundation for a more peaceful and welcoming world is laid by building trust and embracing hope.”

Dr. Al-Asheikh stressed that Saudi Arabia is dedicated to promoting unity and harmony between different religions. “We can get past disagreements and misunderstandings by talking to each other and having common values,” he said. “The Shoura Council is proud to be a part of this important project and to work with parliaments around the world to promote peace.”

Key sessions will look at how religious and legislative groups can help fight extremism, bring people together, and help communities that have been forced to move. Some of the best parts of the meeting are

“Parliamentary Strategies for Religious Freedom and Protection of Minorities” is the topic of the panel discussion.

The workshop is titled “Education as a Tool for Understanding Across Religions.”

“Faith-Based Responses to Global Humanitarian Crises” is the title of the plenary session.

In addition to formal sessions, delegates will participate in prayer services with people of different faiths and culture tours of the Vatican and the Great Synagogue, two of Rome’s most important religious sites.

With help from a group of foreign groups, the conference is being held by both Italy’s parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean. It comes after the first dialogue, which took place in Madrid in 2023, and its goal is to make a joint statement outlining pledges to work together across religions at the legislative and community levels.

On June 23, Dr. Al-Asheikh and the other speakers will likely sign the final communiqué. This will include useful suggestions for national parliaments to improve religious tolerance and social unity.
