Penang Ferry Service Free On National Day
GEORGE TOWN: The Penang ferry service will be offered free of charge to Malaysian citizens on August 31 in conjunction with the National Day 2026 celebrations, said Penang Port Commission (SPPP) Chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin.
He said the initiative is implemented together with Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB) according to the existing service schedule from both ferry terminals, namely Pangkalan Sultan Abdul Halim (PSAH) in Seberang Perai and Pangkalan Raja Tun Uda (PRTU) here.
“This initiative is a manifestation of the ongoing commitment of SPPP and PPSB in facilitating travel for Malaysians, and this free ferry service is not only aimed at reducing traffic congestion in Penang, but also to encourage the use of more sustainable and efficient public transport,” he said in a statement today.
He said based on the statistics of the two-way ferry service during last year’s National Day celebration, 9,185 foot passengers and 1,874 two-wheeled vehicles used the ferry service.
Yeoh said through the free ferry service offer, users will enjoy a one-way savings of RM2 for foot passengers and RM2.50 for two-wheeled vehicles.
In line with the free ferry service initiative and the celebration of SPPP’s 70th anniversary this year, he said SPPP is also implementing strategic cooperation through the “Kids Go Free Merdeka Special” campaign at the Penang Ferry Museum.
“The programme allows Malaysian children aged 12 and below to enjoy free entry to the ferry museum from August 29 to 31, 2026,” he said.
