Israeli Navy Strikes Hezbollah Infrastructure Site Near Naqoura Amid Ongoing Tensions

JERUSALEM – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Saturday that its naval forces targeted and destroyed a Hezbollah “infrastructure site” near the southern Lebanese city of Naqoura, escalating the fragile ceasefire established last November.

According to an IDF statement, an Israeli Navy vessel carried out the strike overnight against a facility used by Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force “to advance terror attacks against Israeli civilians.” The military characterized the site as a key node in the group’s cross‑border operational network.

In a separate release, the IDF reported that on Friday it “struck and eliminated” a Hezbollah militant in south Lebanon, despite the terms of the November ceasefire, which was intended to halt hostilities following months of deadly exchanges.

Lebanon’s official National News Agency, quoting the country’s health ministry, confirmed that one person was killed late Friday when an Israeli drone targeted a motorcycle in the same south Lebanon village, underscoring the volatility of the truce.

The November 2024 ceasefire sought to end Hezbollah’s cross-border attacks in solidarity with Hamas after the October 7, 2023, assault on Israel. As part of the agreement, the Lebanese Armed Forces have been tasked with dismantling Hezbollah’s fortified positions along the Blue Line. However, Beirut has condemned repeated Israeli strikes and accused the IDF of violating the ceasefire and impeding joint inspection efforts.

In June, the Lebanese army warned that continued Israeli violations and a “refusal to cooperate” with the ceasefire monitoring mechanism could force it to suspend its participation in site inspections—an outcome that could further undermine the fragile truce.

Friday’s naval strike came just one day after Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen publicly warned Hezbollah against intervening in the broader Iran-Israel conflict, suggesting that any escalation would be met with “swift and decisive” retaliation.

The latest actions by both sides highlight the precarious nature of the ceasefire and the risk of a broader regional confrontation should hostilities resume in earnest. The international community continues to call for restraint to prevent a return to full-scale conflict along Israel’s northern border.
