SAR operation suspended due to heavy rain

KUALA LUMPUR: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for an Indian national missing due to a landslide on Jalan Masjid India has been temporarily suspended due to heavy rain at the incident site.

The Corporate Planning Unit of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) reported that the suspension has been in effect since 7:30 p.m. yesterday.

In a statement, DBKL indicated that the operation will resume tomorrow, focusing on search efforts at the final point at the Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) Pantai Dalam plant in Kuala Lumpur.

“The results of the search so far have been negative.

“The SAR team is also working to break through the top of the manhole at the incident site to gain clearer visibility inside,” it said.

DBKL mentioned that Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveys are being conducted by the Department of Minerals and Geoscience (JMG) around the Masjid India area to assess soil conditions.

DBKL added that a similar GPR method is being used by the Nuclear Agency Malaysia (Nuklear Malaysia) around the sinkhole area.

“JMG’s survey work started from the entrance of Masjid India and extended 65 meters into the mosque area,” it said.

On Friday morning, Vijayaletchumy, an Indian national, went missing after falling into an eight-meter-deep hole caused by a landslide on Jalan Masjid India.

The victim, who was in the country with her family for a vacation, was reported to be walking through the area towards a nearby temple when the incident occurred.
