Do Not Politicise Negeri Sembilan Royal Succession Crisis – Malay Rulers
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malay Rulers have called on outside parties not to interfere in or politicise the crisis surrounding the institution of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
In a statement issued by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, the Malay Rulers said efforts to resolve the matter should be left to the relevant stakeholders and authorities through lawful, orderly and credible channels.
“The issue at hand must never be exploited for political purposes, used to gain support, increase influence or serve as a platform to advance power struggles,” the statement released today said.
The statement also warned that contradictory and irresponsible remarks would only worsen the situation, heighten tensions, confuse the public and undermine the dignity of the royal institution.
Meanwhile, the Malay Rulers urged all parties involved in the dispute over the throne of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan to prioritise wisdom, patience and respect for the etiquette, customs and dignity of the royal institution.
Any differences in position should be resolved through lawful, authoritative and credible channels, with due respect for established customs and traditions, in the spirit of syura (consultation) and musyawarah (deliberation).
According to the statement, any resolution must be grounded in the law and guided by the provisions of the Negeri Sembilan State Constitution of 1959.
“Opportunities for consultation must be utilised with utmost sincerity to achieve a dignified resolution without belittling or humiliating any party,” the statement said.
The Malay Rulers also reminded all parties that the throne is a sacred trust that carries significant responsibilities towards the state and its people.
Therefore, the spirit of family unity, social harmony and the dignity of the royal institution must always be preserved throughout efforts to reach a resolution.
“All parties must refrain from making statements that could bring shame to others or taking actions that could aggravate the situation,” the statement said.
At the same time, the Malay Rulers cautioned that statements or actions made without understanding the state’s customs, history and constitutional framework could worsen the situation and undermine social harmony.
The public was also urged not to spread unverified information or be influenced by narratives that could divide society.
According to the statement, all parties should allow the relevant authorities sufficient space and time to fulfil their responsibilities and entrusted duties with wisdom and sound judgment.
“The interests of Negeri Sembilan, the harmony of its people and the dignity of the royal institution must take precedence.
“In circumstances such as these, the best approach is to uphold proper conduct, respect established customs, exercise restraint in speech and refrain from interfering in matters beyond one’s jurisdiction,” the statement said.
The statement, dated October 14, 2026, was issued in accordance with the decree of the Malay Rulers and signed by Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad.
