KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik got their Denmark Open 2026 campaign off to a winning start after defeating defending champions Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi of Japan to advance to the second round in Odense yesterday.
The fourth-seeded Malaysian pair, who also won the tournament in 2023, took 51 minutes to overcome their Japanese opponents 21-19, 14-21, 21-11 in the Super 750 tournament held at Jyske Bank Arena.
Aaron-Wooi Yik could face compatriots Aaron Tai-Yap Roy King in the second round if the newly crowned Arctic Open 2026 champions overcome South Korea’s Kang Min-hyuk-Lee Jong-min in their opening match scheduled for later today.
However, it was a different outcome for Malaysia’s women’s singles player K. Letshanaa, who suffered an early exit after losing 5-21, 18-21 to home favourite Line Christophersen in just 32 minutes.
The Denmark Open 2026 offers a total prize purse of US$950,000 (approximately RM3.9 million).
