BAGAN DATUK: The government plans to send 200 Indian students to China for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses, according to Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Deputy Prime Minister, who also chairs the National TVET Council, stated that if this initial batch is successful, an additional 200 Indian students will be dispatched under the same program.

“We aim to prioritize students from all races equally, whether they are Indian, Malay, or Chinese, in our ‘colour-blind’ education policy. We will provide Indian students with the opportunity to study TVET in China at no cost, and if they perform well upon their return, we will seek to send another 200 students,” he announced at a ceremony for distributing school aid to Tamil primary schools in the Bagan Datuk constituency, as reported by Bernama.

Previously, Ahmad Zahid mentioned that the government had also opened up opportunities for students from various regions, including Sabah and Sarawak, to gain experience in TVET in China. The Chinese government has agreed to offer scholarships to 1,000 Malaysian students for TVET courses in China.

Additionally, Ahmad Zahid, who serves as the Bagan Datuk MP, assured that the government will support outstanding students of all races, ensuring they have the chance to further their education at public institutions and top schools across the country.

“We are committed to preventing dropouts; we will ensure that eligible students have the opportunity to continue their education, securing their future and economic prospects,” he stated.

During the event, Ahmad Zahid presented aid to 720 pupils from 14 schools within the constituency.
