LRT3 Riders Propose Women-Only Coaches And Braille Signboards To Improve Safety And Accessibility
SHAH ALAM: Members of the public who were excited to try the LRT3 Shah Alam route, which began operations last Monday, have also offered several suggestions for improvements to make the service safer, more comfortable, and more user-friendly.
One passenger, Samantha Fong, 26, hopes that Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) will consider providing a women-only coach to enhance the safety and comfort of female passengers.
“If there is a women-only coach, male passengers will not enter that coach, and we will feel much safer.
“Besides that, female passengers also do not need to jostle for space with male passengers, especially during peak hours,” she said when met while using the LRT3 service yesterday.
That view was also shared by Reynchie Lee, 26, who hopes that the same facility will be introduced, similar to what is available on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT).
She said that the women-only coach is always her choice whenever using public transport, but she accepts boarding any coach if the facility has not yet been provided.
“Nevertheless, I commend Prasarana because this train is very comfortable and the air-conditioning is really cold.
“The waiting time for the train is also not too long. I will definitely continue using LRT3 even after the free fare promotion ends,” said the Puchong native.
Meanwhile, a visually impaired person with disabilities (OKU), Razlan Ibrahim, 40, hopes that station facilities will be further enhanced with the installation of Braille signboards at every strategic location.
“These signboards are important to help visually impaired OKU identify directions to toilets, prayer rooms, lifts, and other facilities without relying too much on the help of others.
“Many OKU use the train as their daily mode of transport. Therefore, facilities like Braille signboards will give us more freedom and confidence to move around on our own,” he added.
