SPM 2026 Schedule Expected to Be Announced Today – Education DG

KOTA BHARU: The 2026 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination schedule is expected to be announced this afternoon after obtaining the consent of Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, said the Director-General of Education, Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad.

He said, the proposed improvements to the examination schedule will be presented by the Deputy Director of the Examination Board to Fadhlina today for consideration and approval.

“If there are no issues, if she can sign it, we will release the 2026 SPM schedule this afternoon,” he told reporters after the handing over of a bus at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Naim Lilbanat, here, today.

He said, the preparation of the new schedule takes into account the views of various parties, including concerns regarding several examination papers, which were previously often scheduled towards the end of the examination period.

“When we take all views into account, we want to make some improvements… we had to take time to discuss with the parties involved,” he said.

He said, other factors that were also examined include the Northeast Monsoon, haze occurrences that could occur at the end of the year, as well as the school holiday period to ensure that the schedule set does not have implications for State Education Departments (JPN), District Education Offices (PPD) and schools.

“We examined everything, that is why when we want to make changes, I want this matter (the 2026 SPM Schedule) to be thoroughly examined,” he said.

He said, this is important so that any changes to the examination schedule take into account the situation at the state and school levels as well as the interests of candidates and parents.

“We at the Ministry of Education will try to give the best for JPN, PPD and also schools, especially the children who will be sitting for the SPM examination and also to parents,” he said.

Mohd Azam said, in the meeting with the Education Minister that took place yesterday, he also gave an initial overview of the proposed changes.

Recently, concerns from parents and candidates regarding the dates and schedule of the 2026 SPM examination went viral on social media, with some questioning the delay in the announcement of the schedule.
