KUALA LUMPUR: The Prime Minister confirmed that no policy paper has yet been brought to the Cabinet for the purpose of rationalizing the subsidy implemented on RON95 petrol.

Berita Harian reported, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, he expected, the retargeting of subsidies for that purpose would not be implemented in the near future.

“There is no policy paper yet that can lead us to implement it (rationalization of RON95 subsidy) quickly. There has been a study from before, but we think it is better to first look at the steps (targeting) on electricity and diesel.

“First see the impact and how the people will react. Only then (after that) will we be ready to discuss whether (there is) a need,” he said at the Prime Minister’s Question Time session in the Dewan Rakyat, today.

He answered an additional question from Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas) who wanted to know whether the government intends to implement the targeting of RON95 petrol subsidies.
