KUALA LUMPUR: The 200-kilometer Langkah Muar marathon, according to Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, was an effort to demand justice for opposition constituencies that he believes were denied funds.

“This is not a hyperpartisan demand; rather, it is founded on the idea of justice for all people, regardless of their ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, or colour. After finishing his marathon, he addressed a press conference outside the Parliament gate, saying, “Wealth aid must be given to everyone, regardless of whether it is government or Opposition constituencies.”

He said that opposition MPs received nothing while government MPs received RM20 million a term, despite the fact that opposition MPs also had to run service centres, pay officers, and distribute social goods including wheelchairs, pampers, and milk powder.

“Funding for the opposition is a significant issue that was promised during the general election, but it is forgotten afterward.”

He stated, “That is the reason I have started this little effort, by starting the bid to seek funding from Muar.”

Additionally, he advised the government not to use the ongoing rounds of negotiations and letters that have been sent as justification.

Negotiation is no longer an option; instead, the opposition’s constituency members are being punished through politics of retaliation. He declared, “This is wrong, and we must fight it together.

Syed Saddiq stated that he surpassed the goal of RM100,000 by raising RM160,000 for his service centre through the run from about 2,000 donors.

Speaking about his experience, he claimed that it moved him to learn that so many people had helped him along the Melaka-Seremban road by giving him food, money, and support.

I was motivated by this. Despite never having visited Muar, they adore this nation. Others’ grief was sensed by them, he claimed.

“A couple arrived on a motorbike last night when I crossed the Selangor border, and they gave quite a sizable sum of money.” They resided in the surrounding village, and it was clear that they were not well off financially. I was astonished by this, he added, adding that he was moved by their gesture.

When asked how he felt physically after the run, Syed Saddiq replied that he had visited a physiotherapist and might need to schedule a couple more sessions shortly.

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, the Machang MP, joined him and they jogged together for 5km.

Upon arrival, some Perikatan Nasional MPs greeted Syed Saddiq and the group of Muda followers. “Beri-Beri Peruntukan Peruntukan (Give funds)” and “Mana-mana Reformasi” (Where are the Reforms? ) were also chanted.
