RCI Tabung Haji: SPRM Arrests Seven Individuals Including Four Former Senior TH Management

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM) has arrested seven individuals consisting of a chief executive officer (CEO), a company director, a former company director and four former senior management of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) to assist in investigations regarding issues raised in the Report of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on Tabung Haji.

According to sources, all suspects were arrested in stages between 3 pm yesterday and 10.30 pm last night at the SPRM Headquarters in Putrajaya.

“The first suspect, a shipping company CEO with the title Datuk in his 60s, was arrested on suspicion of submitting documents containing false particulars when making payments to TH, involving the falsification of a petroleum company’s contract documents for the benefit of his own company.

“The second suspect, a construction company director with the title Datuk also in his 60s, was arrested on suspicion of deceiving TH officers into making an investment in a construction company by promising that the company had the potential to be listed on Bursa Malaysia,” he said.

Another suspect, a former company director with the title Datuk Seri in his 60s, was also arrested on suspicion of being involved in the same matter as the second suspect, according to sources.

Meanwhile, four former senior TH management personnel in their 50s to 60s, including one with the title Datuk Seri and a woman, were arrested on suspicion of being involved in corrupt practices that induced TH to enter into a lease agreement for four hotels with a company in Saudi Arabia worth SR2.49 billion, which resulted in losses to TH.

Sources informed that only two male suspects, namely the shipping company CEO and the construction company director, were remanded, while the other five suspects were released on SPRM bail due to health issues.

A five-day remand order until August 19 against both suspects was issued by Magistrate Ahmad Afiq Hasan after allowing SPRM’s application at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court this morning.

SPRM Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman when contacted confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 18 and Section 16(a)(A) of the SPRM Act 2009.
