KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested 2,332 youths aged 16 to 40 for various corruption offenses in the five years since 2019.

Reported by Bernama, MACC Community Education Division Director, Nazli Rasyid Sulong, said it involved the offense of accepting and giving bribes, making false claims, using a position or ranking and money laundering.

He said, based on the data, it shows that corrupt activities among young people is a serious issue that needs to be curbed so that it is not normalized in life.

“If this matter continues, what will happen in the next 10 years? At that time we will not be able to change anything because it will seem to be considered normal or the normalization of life.

“Therefore, the MACC strives to continue to provide knowledge to the young group, especially students who will be the hope and line of national leadership in the future,” he said at the closing ceremony of the 9th Anti-Corruption Student Convention (AMAR) in Alor Gajah, Melaka today.

The text of his speech was shared with Bernama here.

AMAR, which was established over the past 17 years, has been spreading the anti-corruption message on campuses with 2,988 programs implemented involving the participation of 816,734 students.

In the meantime, Nazli Rashid hopes that AMAR will continue to remain relevant over time in spreading the anti-corruption message in this country.

“Indeed, AMAR members are carrying out their social responsibilities as Malaysian citizens who want this country and society in general to live freely without the shackles of corruption,” he said.
