BN used its own symbol in GE16

MARAN: Barisan Nasional (BN) will use its own symbol in the 16th General Election (GE16) despite entering into political cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH).

According to Sinar Harian, BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that BN’s failure in the last election did not prevent the party from continuing to use the symbol.

“PH competes with their (PH) symbol, we (in turn) compete with our symbol, but in terms of cooperation we (still) work together,” he said.

He said this when officiating the Maran Division UMNO meeting at the Maran Division UMNO Hall, Pekan Tajau

Also present was the UMNO Head of Maran Division, Datuk Shahaniza Shamsuddin.

“As long as the area we (BN) are competing in is not contested by them (PH) and we will not compete in the area they (PH) are competing in,” he explained.

Responding to the latest status of the People’s Progressive Party (myPPP), Ahmad Zahid said there are 11 parties in the coalition including MyPPP as ‘friends of BN’.

He said, BN only has four component parties consisting of UMNO, MIC, MCA and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah.

“We are all equal… they (MyPPP) are part of Friends of BN, not a component (party).

“In the BN Constitution, it states that the decision to accept any party must be 100 percent ‘consensus’… if any party does not agree, then we will not accept,” he said.
