SHAH ALAM: National professional men’s singles player, Lee Zii Jia, has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Canada Open, leaving him just one step away from ending his two-year wait for a World Tour semi-final appearance.

The world number 60 defeated Taiwan’s representative, Liao Jhuo Fu, 21-11, 21-13 in a second-round match that lasted only 29 minutes, reported Berita Harian.

Prior to that, Zii Jia received an easy passage into the second round after his opponent from India, K Srikanth, withdrew when trailing 10-11 in the first set.

Although he did not face stiff resistance in his first two matches, Zii Jia still displayed a convincing performance as he dominated the game against Jhuo Fu.

The victory places him in the quarter-finals, just one step away from his first semi-final appearance on the World Tour since emerging as the champion of the Australia Open 2024.

However, Zii Jia must first overcome the challenge of Taiwan’s Wang Po Wei, who is ranked 45th in the world, in the quarter-final match.
