Police Investigate Alleged Harassment of Forensic Doctor in Noorizwan Death Case

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating allegations that a forensic medical specialist was harassed by several lawyers in connection with the death of detainee Noorizwan Zulkefly.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Datuk M. Kumar said police had received a report from the doctor and were investigating the case under Sections 506, 186 and 189 of the Penal Code.

“The doctor is a public servant, and we have received a police report from the individual concerned. Investigations are ongoing, and police are recording statements from the relevant parties,” he told a press conference at Bukit Aman here today.

He said police have so far recorded statements from 14 individuals, including the doctor, three lawyers linked to the case and members of Noorizwan’s family.

Commenting on developments in the investigation into Noorizwan’s death, Kumar said the investigation papers would be referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers this Wednesday for further action.

Previously, he said the investigation into Noorizwan’s death had been taken over by the Prosecution/Legal Division (D5) of Bukit Aman’s CID and was being investigated under Section 331 of the Penal Code.

The case was classified under that section after a statement recorded from a forensic medicine consultant at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz indicated that external injuries were found on several parts of the deceased’s body.

The pattern of injuries was found to be consistent with blunt force trauma rather than self-inflicted injuries.

However, the complete post-mortem report confirming the cause of death has yet to be obtained, and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) are awaiting further information.
