RM500 Flight Ticket Assistance for New Public University Students

PETALING JAYA: A one-off RM500 special assistance for the purchase of domestic flight tickets will be provided to each eligible new student enrolling at a public institution of higher education (IPTA) for the September or October intake.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the special assistance was aimed at easing the financial burden on the people and strengthening ties between the Federal Government and Sabah and Sarawak.

“Alhamdulillah, in my Malaysia Day address, I announced several important initiatives aimed at easing the burden on the people and strengthening relations between the Federal Government and Sabah and Sarawak.

“These include the special grant entitlement for Sarawak, improvements to the Budi Madani Diesel (Budi Diesel) initiative for the people, as well as a one-off Special Flight Ticket Purchase Assistance for every eligible new IPTA student,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Anwar, in his speech at the national-level Malaysia Day 2026 celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last night, announced the special grant initiative for Sarawak and improvements to the transfer of Budi Diesel eligibility.

The initiative allows eligible registered vehicle owners under Budi Diesel to transfer their eligibility to a maximum of three individuals who actually use the vehicle, with immediate effect.

Anwar said the measures were among the government’s efforts to ensure that the benefits of the country’s progress are enjoyed by all segments of society.

“These initiatives also embody the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) as a national covenant that must continue to be translated into action through respect for the rights and interests of Sabah and Sarawak within the framework of the Federation.

“My entire Madani Government team and I will continue to work hard to ensure that every aspect of the country’s progress translates into tangible benefits for the people, so that Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia can continue moving forward together towards a more prosperous and dignified life,” he said.
