KAJANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced an allocation of RM1 million to the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) to be coordinated and distributed to assist hawkers and small traders associations nationwide.

He said the allocation must be distributed in a well-planned manner to ensure that hawkers and small traders associations across the country benefit comprehensively.

“Initially, I thought of announcing only RM100,000, which is already a substantial amount. But then I considered the hundreds of thousands of hawkers, the number of businesses, stalls and associations nationwide, so we need to organise this properly.

“The government will provide assistance to ensure that hawkers and traders see an increase in their income every year,” he said in his speech at the closing ceremony of the National Hawkers and Small Traders Day (HPPK) Carnival 2026 here today.

Also present were Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Steven Sim, Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Also in attendance was President of the Federation of Malaysian Malay Hawkers and Small Traders Associations (GPPPKMM), Datuk Zainal Abidin Abd Majid.

In this regard, Anwar also called for an assessment of income growth among hawkers and small traders, particularly by comparing their performance over the past three years with that of this year.

He said the assessment is important to identify weaknesses and shortcomings in existing approaches, while ensuring that government assistance genuinely benefits the targeted groups.

He added that efforts to support hawkers and small traders would not only improve their economic standing but also benefit the country’s domestic economy.
