PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) continues to strengthen its commitment to ensuring that accessibility and inclusive employment opportunities are available to all, including persons with disabilities (OKU).

Deputy Secretary-General (Policy and International), Dr Hj Mohd Shaharin bin Umar, said accessibility should not be viewed solely in terms of physical facilities but should also encompass access to information, services, training, technology and employment opportunities in a safe, independent and dignified manner.

As of December 31, 2025, a total of 9,331 persons with disabilities were serving in Malaysia’s public service, representing 0.62 per cent of the overall public-sector workforce.

Dr Mohd Shaharin said participation by persons with disabilities in the workforce needs to be further strengthened, particularly in terms of career advancement opportunities and their involvement in decision-making processes.

KESUMA is also strengthening the inclusive employment ecosystem through various initiatives implemented by the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), including the Return to Work programme, employment matching through MYFutureJobs, dedicated interviews and career fairs for persons with disabilities, as well as job coaching services.

At the same time, greater emphasis needs to be placed on promoting Universal Design and digital accessibility to ensure that workplaces, systems and services can be used by as many people as possible without barriers.

Under the theme “Accessibility Empowered, Inclusivity Preserved”, KESUMA reaffirmed its commitment to building a workplace environment that is more accessible, equitable and inclusive for everyone.

The ministry said continued cooperation among government agencies, employers and other stakeholders would be important in strengthening opportunities for persons with disabilities and ensuring that inclusivity remains an integral part of Malaysia’s employment ecosystem.
