Malaysian Woman Arrested With 15kg of Cannabis in New Delhi – Bukit Aman

BACHOK: A 22-year-old Malaysian woman was arrested by Indian authorities after she was allegedly found carrying 15 kilogrammes (kg) of cannabis at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi, India, on Sept 4.

Confirming the arrest, Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the woman, who is from Perak, was detained after Indian Customs officers discovered the drugs concealed in 30 packages inside her trolley luggage.

“A Malaysian woman was arrested with 15kg of cannabis at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi, India, on Sept 4,” he told Bernama today.

Hussein said the NCID received information regarding the woman’s arrest from India’s Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).

He said the suspect had travelled on Batik Air flight OD205 from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to New Delhi on Sept 4.

“The suspect is currently being detained by Indian Customs and will be investigated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 pending trial,” he said.

Hussein added that the suspect also has a previous drug-related record under Section 15 of Malaysia’s Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He said the NCID would remain in contact with India’s NCB to obtain further information regarding the case.
