GAZA CITY: Three Palestinians, including a young girl, were killed on Monday in an Israeli airstrike targeting a displacement camp in the southern Gaza Strip, according to medical sources and emergency responders.

Civil Defence spokesman Mahmoud Bassal said 11 people were killed and another 50 injured by Israeli gunfire and airstrikes across Gaza over the past 24 hours.

“We recovered three bodies, including that of a child, after an Israeli airstrike targeted a displacement camp in the Al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis,” Bassal told AFP.

Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, confirmed the three deaths.

“Their bodies were torn apart after being directly struck by shrapnel from an Israeli missile,” the hospital said, adding that several injured victims, including a child and a woman, were also brought in for treatment.

Meanwhile, at least eight Palestinians were killed in a series of Israeli military attacks across Gaza on Sunday.

The attacks included an airstrike targeting a university campus in Gaza City.

Three security guards were killed when an Israeli airstrike hit the Islamic University campus, marking the second attack on the educational institution within hours.

Al Jazeera correspondent Hani Mahmoud, reporting live from the scene shortly after the attack, described the destruction as devastating.

“Bloodstains and pieces of flesh from the victims were scattered across the ground. The smell of burning concrete mixed with the overpowering stench of blood,” he said.

Mahmoud added that the Al Jazeera team had just finished filming a report at the location and had greeted the three security guards shortly before they were killed in the attack.

“We could hear the whistling of shrapnel flying around us,” the correspondent said.

In an earlier drone strike on the same campus, seven female students were injured by flying shrapnel.

“One of them sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby field hospital,” Mahmoud said.
