Bayern Munich striker and England captain Harry Kane made history after being crowned the winner of the 2026 Men’s Ballon d’Or following an outstanding season with his club and the England national team.

The 33-year-old overcame strong competition from France captain Kylian Mbappé and Spanish young sensation Lamine Yamal to claim football’s most prestigious individual award at a ceremony held in London on Monday night.

The achievement came after Kane demonstrated exceptional goalscoring ability throughout the 2025/26 season, scoring a total of 73 goals in all competitions for Bayern Munich and England.

Of that total, 61 goals were scored for Bayern across all competitions, including 36 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances, further strengthening his reputation as one of Europe’s most dangerous strikers.

Kane also received the Striker of the Year award after emerging as the leading goalscorer among male players during the campaign.

Meanwhile, Yamal once again missed out on the top award after finishing second in the previous edition. However, the Barcelona player achieved another personal milestone by winning the Kopa Trophy for the third consecutive year, an award presented to the best player under the age of 21.

In the women’s category, Spanish midfielder Alexia Putellas was crowned the winner of the Ballon d’Or Féminin, marking her return to the top after last winning the award in 2022.

Putellas, who previously won the award in 2021 and 2022, returned to her best form after enduring a difficult period due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that affected her career.

Her victory also reinforced the dominance of Spanish women’s football on the international stage, despite strong competition from several other contenders this year.

For Kane, the 2026 Ballon d’Or recognition marked the pinnacle of an exceptional season, further cementing his position among the best strikers of his generation.
