SEREMBAN: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have opened a total of 14 investigation papers related to election offences during the campaign period for the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN) as of yesterday, according to Negeri Sembilan Police Chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad.

Of the total, three investigation papers were opened yesterday involving offences under Section 435 of the Penal Code, which relates to committing mischief by fire resulting in the destruction of or damage to property.

He added that two additional investigation papers were opened under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which concerns committing mischief causing loss of or damage to property.

“The investigation papers opened yesterday involved two police reports lodged in Gemas, Tampin, concerning incidents in which party flags were set on fire and campaign banners were vandalised. Another report was lodged in Titi, Jelebu, involving a billboard that was torn and damaged.

“Cumulatively, from 18 to 25 July, the Negeri Sembilan Police received 28 reports related to election offences,” he said in a statement today.

In addition, Datuk Alzafny said that 94 out of 95 permit applications submitted yesterday for political ceramah (public talks) and campaign activities were approved, bringing the total number of approved permits to 416.

He said the police will continue to strengthen their level of preparedness, monitoring, and enforcement throughout the campaign period, and that strict action will be taken against any violations of the law.

“The public is advised to continue complying with the law, respect the democratic process, and cooperate with the Royal Malaysia Police to ensure that the election is conducted peacefully, harmoniously, and in an orderly manner,” he said.

Early voting for the Negeri Sembilan State Election has been scheduled for Tuesday, while polling day will take place on 1 August.
