Immigration Department Counters to Close for Two Days Over Public Holiday Weekend

PUTRAJAYA : Malaysians with pending passport, visa, and immigration-related matters have been advised to plan ahead as all Immigration Department counters nationwide will be closed for two consecutive days next week in conjunction with public holidays.

The Immigration Department announced that all service counters, including those operating at Urban Transformation Centres (UTCs), will not operate on Monday, June 1, and Tuesday, June 2.

The temporary closure is in observance of the Official Birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on June 1 and the replacement public holiday for Wesak Day on June 2.

In a statement shared through its official social media platforms on Friday, the department confirmed that normal operations will resume on Wednesday, June 3.

“All counters will resume operations on Wednesday (June 3),” the department stated.

The announcement comes as many Malaysians prepare for a rare back-to-back public holiday period, prompting concerns over access to government services and immigration-related applications.

Under Malaysia’s labour laws, the Official Birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is recognised as one of the mandatory paid public holidays for private sector employees in Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

Meanwhile, Wesak Day falls on Sunday, May 31 this year, entitling workers to a replacement holiday on Tuesday under provisions of the Public Holidays Act 1951.

Members of the public with urgent immigration matters, including passport renewals, permit applications, and visa processing, are encouraged to make the necessary arrangements before the holiday closures or return once counters reopen on Wednesday.
