Water Village Squatter Settlement in Kampung Numbak Catches Fire, Firefighters Actively Battling Blaze

KOTA KINABALU: A fire involving a squatter settlement on stilts over the water occurred in Kampung Numbak here early this morning, but the number of houses affected has yet to be confirmed as firefighting efforts are still ongoing.
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in a statement informed that it received a call regarding the incident at 1.40 am, before fire engines arrived at the location at 1.58 am.
“A total of 39 personnel from the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), Lintas BBP, and Penampang BBP were deployed to the location to carry out firefighting operations,” according to the statement.
According to JBPM, the fire brigade is currently conducting firefighting operations using two lines with four water jets, drawing water sources from the fire engines.
“Firefighting operations are still actively underway and further information regarding the incident will be updated from time to time,” the statement said.
So far, no information on casualties has been reported, and the firefighting operation is also being assisted by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and relevant agencies.
