MITRA Launches Six New Initiatives Worth RM65.5mil to Empower Indian Community

KUALA LUMPUR : The Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA) has unveiled six new initiatives for 2026 with a total allocation of RM65.5 million aimed at strengthening the socio-economic development of the Indian community in Malaysia.

Human Resources Minister Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan announced the initiatives during a press conference held in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.

Also present at the event were Deputy Secretary-General (Policy) of the Human Resources Ministry, Dr Hj Mohd Shaharin Umar, and MITRA director-general Raveendran Nair.

The six initiatives introduced under MITRA 2026 are CELIK MADANI, KALVI MADANI, UYARVU MADANI, MADANI Rakyat Komuniti India, AROGYA MADANI and THUNAI MADANI.

According to the ministry, the programmes are expected to benefit thousands of recipients, particularly among the B40 and M40 groups within the Indian community.

The initiatives will focus on key areas including education, entrepreneurship, healthcare, welfare assistance and community development as part of broader efforts to improve socio-economic opportunities.

Speaking during the announcement, Ramanan said the initiatives reflect the MADANI Government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring more inclusive, structured and high-impact support for all communities.

“The government remains committed to expanding access to education, economic opportunities, healthcare assistance and social support in a more effective and inclusive manner,” he said.

MITRA said the newly launched programmes are designed to create long-term impact while improving the quality of life and economic resilience of the Indian community nationwide.
