Ops Gegar: Immigration Department Busts Foreign Prostitution Syndicate in Kuala Lumpur City Centre

KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department of Malaysia has dismantled a suspected prostitution syndicate operating from a four-storey shoplot in the Kota Raya area, Jalan Tun Siew Sin, following a special enforcement operation codenamed “Ops Gegar”.

The operation, carried out on 19 May 2026 at around 3.30pm, involved officers from multiple units, including the Special Tactical Team (PASTAK), the Intelligence and Special Operations Division, and enforcement officers from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

According to immigration authorities, the raid was launched after approximately one month of intelligence gathering by PASTAK officers, who identified suspicious activities at the premises before mobilising enforcement teams to the location.

A total of 29 individuals were inspected during the operation, comprising 27 foreign nationals and two Malaysians. Of these, 24 foreign nationals were detained, including nine Indonesian women, seven Bangladeshi women, five Bangladeshi men, and one individual each from Nepal, Indonesia, and Myanmar.

In addition, five witness summonses were issued to assist investigations involving two local men and three Bangladeshi nationals.

Preliminary intelligence suggested that the syndicate offered illicit services to both local and foreign clients, charging between RM80 and RM120 per session lasting approximately 15 minutes.

The premises were believed to be operating in structured shifts, with individuals divided into daytime operations from 10am to 8pm and night shifts from 8pm to 5am.

Authorities also found that the syndicate maintained strict internal controls, reportedly using surveillance systems to monitor movements and avoid detection by enforcement agencies.

Investigators identified a foreign individual known as “Captain”, believed to be managing internal operations, while a local man allegedly referred to as “Abang Long Kawasan” was responsible for monitoring customer flow outside the premises.

The syndicate is also believed to have strategically selected a location near a busy bus terminal area to blend in with high pedestrian traffic and reduce suspicion.

Despite these measures, PASTAK intelligence officers successfully penetrated the syndicate’s operational setup, enabling the successful execution of the raid.

During the operation, enforcement officers seized several items believed to be linked to the illegal activities, including logbooks, condoms, lubricants, and CCTV equipment used for surveillance purposes.

All detained foreign nationals have been sent to the Putrajaya Immigration Depot for further investigation under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

The Immigration Department said it will continue to intensify enforcement operations and take strict action against any parties found violating immigration laws and related regulations.
