MALAYSIA’S 19-year wait to clinch the mixed doubles title at the Asian Junior Badminton Championships ended in the 2026 edition on Sunday when the pair of Ahmad Redzuan Zulwaqqarizal and Low Zi Yu made history in Yatsushiro, Japan.

The country’s second-seeded pair displayed a solid performance throughout the match and managed to defeat their opponents, China’s Zheng Wei Gang and Li Meng Han, in a straight-set final lasting 43 minutes at the Yatsushiro City General Gymnasium.

The Malaysian pair dominated the first set 21-15 and overcame their challengers’ attempt to stage a comeback late in the match, before sealing victory in the second set 22-20.

The victory also marked their first win over the Chinese pair in their maiden meeting.

This historic achievement is significant for the Malaysian badminton squad as they became the country’s first junior mixed doubles pair to clinch the title since Tan Wee Kiong and Woon Khe Wei achieved it in 2007.
