KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed heartfelt gratitude to all Malaysians for their collective effort and unwavering support that led to the resounding success of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, which concluded yesterday.
In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Senior Press Secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah said the Prime Minister commended the unity, dedication, and professionalism displayed by all parties involved, describing the event’s success as a shared national achievement.
“The Prime Minister extends his deepest gratitude to all government agencies, the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Armed Forces, volunteers, and members of the media for their steadfast commitment and service in ensuring the smooth organisation of this historic summit,” Tunku Nashrul said during a media briefing.
Anwar also thanked the Malaysian public for their patience, cooperation, and support throughout the summit period, which saw heightened security and logistical preparations across the capital.
“On behalf of the Prime Minister, we seek forgiveness for any shortcomings during Malaysia’s tenure as ASEAN Chair in 2025,” he added.
Tunku Nashrul noted that the 47th ASEAN Summit was one of the largest and most high-profile gatherings in ASEAN’s history, attended by all ASEAN Heads of State, nine Dialogue Partners, and four Guest Countries of the Chair.
The summit, themed “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” highlighted Malaysia’s diplomatic credibility and leadership within the regional bloc, reinforcing the country’s long-standing commitment to ASEAN’s unity and cooperation.
Since ASEAN’s founding in 1967, Malaysia has chaired the organization five times in 1977, 1997, 2005, 2015, and 2025 each tenure leaving a lasting mark on the bloc’s progress and regional solidarity.
The symbolic handover of the ASEAN Chairmanship to the Philippines yesterday marked the conclusion of Malaysia’s chairmanship, closing a chapter defined by collaboration, trust, and regional partnership.
