PETALING JAYA: A special task force headed by the Attorney General will be established to coordinate investigations involving all relevant enforcement agencies into alleged corporate mafia activities.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government would not protect anyone involved in such activities under any circumstances.

“I have instructed the Attorney General to lead a special task force involving all enforcement agencies, namely the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the police, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), the Securities Commission Malaysia, the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) and the Anti-Money Laundering Investigation Team (AMLA).

“I have requested a comprehensive report to be prepared so that the public will not perceive the matter as lacking transparency or believe that certain individuals are being protected.

“The report must be completed within three months. This is not merely a report for civil servants but for the government. Therefore, I have instructed that it be made public.

“If there is evidence, disclose it, regardless of who is involved. Among the names previously mentioned were Tan Sri Azam Baki, Datuk Seri Farhash Wafa Salvador and Victor Chin,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Anwar was responding to a supplementary question from Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat) on whether the government would protect any individuals implicated in the alleged corporate mafia activities.
