Putrajaya, 7 October: The Peninsular Malaysia Immigration Service Union (KPISM) has expressed full support for the firm stance taken by the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS) in prohibiting all civil servants from participating in any event or activity involving alcoholic beverages.
In a statement today, KPISM President Ajeet Singh A/L Gurbax Singh said the position is consistent with the principles of integrity, dignity, and professionalism that every public servant must uphold. The union emphasized that government employees serve the people and the nation and therefore must safeguard the image of their departments and the overall reputation of the civil service.
“Public servants must ensure that their conduct does not create negative perceptions about the government. Any association with activities involving alcohol can undermine the integrity and credibility of the public service,” the statement read.
KPISM also endorsed CUEPACS’ call for civil servants to exercise greater caution and to verify the nature of any event before attending, especially if it is suspected to involve the serving of alcoholic drinks. The union urged officers to decline invitations to such events and to inform their respective department heads for further guidance.
At the same time, KPISM appealed to private sector organizations and event organizers to respect Malaysia’s religious and cultural sensitivities, particularly when official events are attended by government officials. The statement highlighted Malaysia’s multiethnic and multireligious identity, underscoring the importance of courtesy, mutual respect, and adherence to official ethics.
“Malaysia is a nation built on the values of decency, respect, and diversity. Therefore, organizers must always be mindful of these norms in any official engagement involving public servants,” KPISM said.
The union reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all initiatives that strengthen the integrity and public image of the civil service, ensuring that it remains a respected, credible, and highly ethical institution.
“United, Harmonious, Successful.”
