Ismail Sabri to Be Charged at KL Sessions Court Tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court, tomorrow under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

Lawyer Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, who represents Ismail Sabri, 66, when contacted by Bernama today, confirmed that his client will attend court tomorrow.

Based on a check of the court system, the case against Ismail Sabri will be mentioned before Judge Suzana Hussin at 9 am.

The Bera Member of Parliament will face charges under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act 2009 regarding asset declaration.

Ismail Sabri was supposed to be charged in court on August 7, but the proceedings were postponed to August 27 after he was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) due to health issues.

Suzana postponed the reading of the charge and the recording of the plea to that date (August 27) after Amer Hamzah applied for an adjournment as Ismail Sabri was experiencing possible arrhythmia and was scheduled to undergo a pacemaker procedure.

Amer Hamzah said his client experienced a heart issue during the recording of his statement with the MACC on August 6.

Previously, the former prime minister was called several times for statement recording sessions regarding the asset declaration made to the MACC.

MACC also seized RM170 million in cash in various foreign currencies and confiscated 16 kilograms of pure gold bullion estimated to be worth RM7 million in connection with the corruption and money laundering investigation against him.

The seizures were carried out during raids on residences and offices believed to have been used as “safe houses” following investigations into four senior officers of Ismail Sabri who were detained in February 2025.
