Two Men Arrested for ‘Speed Testing’ Vehicles on Putra Bridge

PUTRAJAYA: Two motorists who were believed to have been testing the speed of their vehicles on Putra Bridge here were arrested by police after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

Putrajaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Aidi Sham Mohamed said the two men, aged 19 and 21, were detained to assist investigations into the incident.

“Investigations found that the two individuals were at the location to gather and create content for social media, and not for the purpose of racing.

“Further checks revealed that the 21-year-old driver did not possess a valid driving licence, while the Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM) for the vehicle he was driving had expired,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

He said both drivers were also issued summonses for offences involving unauthorised vehicle modifications.

“Initial urine screening tests conducted on both drivers returned negative results for drugs.

“The case is being investigated under Section 81 of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333),” he said.

Meanwhile, Aidi Sham advised the public against engaging in speed-testing activities or racing on public roads.

“Police also remind the public not to create social media content involving dangerous driving stunts that could endanger themselves and other road users,” he said.
