Two Brothers Charged with Kidnapping and Assault in Puchong

PUCHONG: Two teenage brothers were brought before the Magistrate’s Court here today to face charges of kidnapping and voluntarily causing hurt to a local man in an incident that took place last week in Bukit Puchong.

V. Kirtik Ram, 19, a lorry attendant, and his younger brother V. Theshvinram, 18, a despatch rider, pleaded not guilty to both charges when read before Magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin.

According to the charge sheet, the siblings are accused of abducting a 21-year-old man with the intention of secretly and wrongfully confining him. The alleged offence occurred at Jalan Persiaran Permai, Bukit Puchong, at 6.38pm on July 22.

The charge was framed under Section 365 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison and a possible fine upon conviction.

The brothers also face a second charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt to the same victim. If found guilty, they could be sentenced to a maximum of one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

The court granted bail at RM5,000 each for the kidnapping charge and RM2,000 each for the assault charge. The case has been fixed for mention on September 8.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Nur Syahirah Abdul Rahim, while both accused were unrepresented.
